If you’re an adult with crooked or crowded teeth, you can have the smile you want with the help of adult braces.

Maybe you had braces as a child but your teeth have shifted over the years, or maybe alignment issues were never addressed when you were younger.

Either way, alignment or spacing problems with your teeth can not only make you self-conscious and less apt to smile, it can also cause problems with chewing, speech, uneven wear, and jaw joint problems including TMJ. It can even result in tooth decay and gum disease because misaligned teeth are can be more difficult to clean.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU NEED BRACES

If you’re having any problems related to tooth spacing or alignment, it’s not too late for braces! According to the American Association of Orthodontics, orthodontic treatment can be as successful for adults as it is for adolescents. In fact, approximately 20% of braces-wearers in the United States are adults.

If you have any of the following problems, adult braces may be right for you:

  • You are self-conscious about your smile
  • You tend to cover your mouth when you laugh, smile, or talk
  • Your teeth are crowded or overlapped
  • You have one or more teeth that are crooked or out of position
  • You have issues with your bite—overbite, underbite, crossbite, or openbite
  • You have large gaps between your teeth
  • You have pain in your teeth or jaw due to misaligned teeth
  • You have difficulties brushing and flossing
  • You have problems biting or chewing your food

ADULT BRACES AT BLUE BACK DENTAL

At Blue Back Dental, we offer two adult orthodontic options: Six Month Smiles Adult Cosmetic Braces and Invisalign®. Both will straighten misaligned teeth much faster than traditional metal braces.

The Six Month Smiles method uses clear braces and tooth-colored wires to move your teeth into the correct position, usually within six months. The braces are barely visible, and use low force to move teeth gently, focusing on the teeth that are visible when you smile.

Invisalign® uses clear aligner trays, which are custom-fitted to be worn over the teeth. The trays work to gradually shift and straighten the teeth. Invisalign® users typically wear the aligners for one year with a checkup every four to six weeks. Invisalign trays are comfortable to wear and can be removed for eating and brushing.
