What Happens During a Root Canal?
Dr. Olsen will begin by administering local anesthesia to numb your mouth and eliminate the potential for any pain throughout the procedure. Once the tooth is isolated with a dental dam, he will make an opening in the crown of your tooth and begin to clear out any decayed or damaged tissue. Carefully clearing out the canals and removing the affected pulp, he will then fill the tooth with a malleable substance known as gutta-percha.
Once the tooth is filled, it will be altered to allow for a customized dental crown to rest on top. This will help to prevent future reinfection or damage to the existing structure.
