Get to Know Sydney Spal, DDS
Dr. Spal was raised in Randolph, NJ. She attended Fordham University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with a concentration in pre-med. Dr. Spal spent a year after college conducting research at Montefiore Medical Center where she was one of the leading authors in 2 published articles, “Dental Emergencies in Dental Patients with Diabetes in a Large Urban Academic Healthcare” and “Relationship between Oral Clefting, Neighborhoods and Socioeconomic Status.” She continued to pursue her interest in the sciences at New York Medical College and earned her M.S. where she wrote a thesis titled “Smoking and the Effects on the Oral Mucosa. It was during these years that she developed her passion for dentistry and continued on to Touro College of Dental Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
Following dental school, Dr. Spal completed a residency at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. She treated hundreds of patients for their general dentistry needs as well as oral surgery procedures, root canals, esthetic procedures and pediatric dentistry, as well as clearance for medical and surgical procedures. She had extensive training and management of patients with dental and facial trauma in the emergency room. She also spent a lot of time in the office and operating room treating patients with special needs.
Beyond Dr. Spal’s professional accomplishments, she takes great joy in building long-lasting relationships with her patients. She strives to develop a trusting and personal connection, understanding that each patient's needs and goals are unique. She believes that patient education is key to maintaining optimal oral health, and takes the time to thoroughly explain procedures and answer any questions you may have. Dr. Spal firmly believes that an informed patient is an empowered patient. She is dedicated to ensuring the smiles of her patients are healthy, beautiful, and confident. Dr. Spal is an active member of Connecticut State Dental Association, Hartford Dental Society, International Association for Dental Research, American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry.
Aside from dentistry, Dr. Spal is a foodie. She enjoys cooking, checking out new places to eat, exercising, and spending time with her boyfriend, family, friends, and her spoiled mini sheepadoodle Einstein.
