For many of our patients, a dental bridge offers the perfect solution to replacing lost teeth and making their smile healthy and complete. For those not familiar with this treatment, it’s natural to have questions about what to expect from the bridge teeth procedure. The doctors at Blue Back Dental serving Avon, Connecticut and West Hartford, Connecticut, provide the answers you need here to help you make an informed decision about this treatment.
A bridge is a dental device used to replace missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth connected to dental crowns on each end of the bridge. The crowns are placed on healthy adjacent teeth (aka abutment teeth) to secure the bridge in place. Dental bridges can be made from porcelain, ceramic, or metal alloys or a combination of these materials. Once in place, a fixed bridge becomes a permanent part of your smile.

Here are the general steps to getting a bridge:Â
Your Avon or West Hartford, Connecticut dentist will use local anesthesia for this treatment to keep you as comfortable as possible during your procedure. You can look forward to a positive, pain-free bridge treatment. Â
There are basically four types of bridges:
Fixed bridges are permanent structures that are brushed and flossed, just like natural teeth. Good oral hygiene is a must to avoid problems with plaque buildup on your teeth or gum disease. Your Avon or West Hartford, Connecticut dentist will inspect your bridge regularly during routine check-ups. We’ll also help keep your new teeth in good shape with biannual dental cleanings.
With proper upkeep, a fixed dental bridge can last quite a few years. The materials used to create your bridge, where it’s located, how it’s used, and its oral care will all impact the lifespan of your bridge. A quality bridge can last up to 15 years, with good oral care.
